meander
Emily and Alexx came to visit.
Sharon and Oliver and Simon came to visit.
Katherine came to visit Matt.
I work at the zoo and wear pleated pants all the time and pink rain boots sometimes.
Life meanders on.

I'm a mommy model

Look at me! I'm a mommy model!
If you're in Wal-Mart or Barnes and Noble or some other place that sells American Baby magazine this month, you might flip through it to see me in the baby carrier feature. One of our mommy models couldn't make it to the shoot I assisted Linda on a couple months ago, so I filled in. It's pretty dang horrifying, but a fun anecdote.
The picture I posted is the rough proof. The pictures look normal in the magazine.

new glasses and etcetera
So many new things in my life these days: new friends, new eye glasses, new experiences, new jobs. Check out some of the newness:
Lately I haven't been able to see far away street signs as I'm biking around the city. So I got an eye exam, a prescription, and found a cool woman who sells vintage frames. I bought the frames and took them to a place she refers her clients to to get the frames filled. I love these ridiculous frames! They make my pimples look cool!
Bronwyn is a new friend of mine who's a photographer. We hang out in cafes, take bike rides, and go to a weekly small group together.
Isn't she charming?
Today I met this girl named Genell. I saw her photographs from Japan hanging in a cafe and I emailed her to tell her how much I loved them. Turns out, she's 22, from Maryland, and a pro roller skater, lover of Asia, and photographer just like me! We're going out dancing tonight.
The other day I babysat for this little girl. I met her mom through Circle of Hope church. We dressed up as fairies and played on the playground across the street from her house.
There is soooooooo much other newness, but I've got to go to work now. More pictures tomorrow or the next day!
One more fun tidbit: found this funky salon on a bike ride through the city today. They only charge 35-50 bucks for a hair cut and the atmosphere is totally hip and fresh!
It's called American Mortals . Click it and check it out!
There are so many artists, new ideas, and explosions of thought happening in this city that I call my home.

a working class hero is something to be
(Here I am doing handy-girl work for the encaustic painter, Tremain Smith. I help her on Monday mornings by building her panels, which involves electric sawing and sanding, nail hammering, staining, sealing, measuring, and gluing. I want to be a carpenter! Working with my hands resonates with my heart. And I love the smells of carpentery materials. mmmmh. Tremain blesses me with her presence simply by letting me work for her at all. She doesn't quite need an assistant, but simply getting to talk to her and experience her joyful creative energy every week is incredibly grounding for me.)
After a month of riding my bike around this city like it's my job, I am so incredibly empowered by the dignity of having a job! Several, actually. This spring and summer I will be:
a barista at a gourmet coffee shop that lets me drink all the lapsang souchang tea i want!
a roaming photographer at the zoo
a part-time assistant to Tremain
a volunteer ESL teacher at the iHouse
working at a funky neighborhood outreach thrift shop once a week
I will do all of these things in small amounts. I think my days will not feel monotonous. These things will bring in plenty of money for my simple single life while I apply for 'resume-building' positions for the fall. HA!
